Introduction

 Hello,

My name is Kiara!

This is my blog for ART 548 which will explore the idea of place through walking, sensory engagement, and observation. I have done some exploration of this concept before in another class, which you can view here if you'd like to see what I've done. That course focused more on historical practices in art education, while this one encourages a more personal and experiential exploration of place, which im truly excited for!

As a little bit about me:
I'm 26 and am pursuing my master's in art education. I have taught for 2 years in a second-grade classroom and loved every minute of it. This being said, pursuing art education has always been a lifelong dream of mine, which is why im back in school.
I have grown up here in Tucson all my life, and although it gets some bad rap, I have found ways to appreciate its beauty. Although I have lived here my whole life, you'd be surprised at how little I know about Tucson. I didn't get the chance to really "explore" this place until my freshman year of college. The same goes for the rest of Arizona. I am excited for this course, as my hope is to "rediscover" this place that I've called home for the past 26 years of my life.
My biggest passions are being creative in any sense (it's always changing), watercolor, sketching, thrifting, and supporting local shops. I also work for a photobooth company and take a huge role in that as well. Being creative is a huge part of my identity—and I'm sure many of yours as well. I'm always finding new ways to feed that creative part of my brain. My newest passions are bleaching/reviving worn-out thrifted shirts and digital art.

I hope I can somehow incorporate my passions into this class. I'm so excited to engage with the content in this class.

Look forward to reading all of your blogs!
-Kiara
